The Cost of Electronic Cigarettes

So, you’re thinking about buying an electronic cigarette, but the price seems a little high?  That’s a common feeling people get when they decide to make the switch to ecigs.  A $50 kit seems expensive when you’re used to paying for cigarettes $5 or $6 at a time.  What’s important to remember, however, is that after the initial expense, the recurring cost of electronic cigarettes is much cheaper than cigarettes.

Let’s look at a six month period.  The average price of a pack of cigarettes in the U.S. is around $5.50, so a pack a day for six months would be $1,023.  Ouch!  It’s time to quit.

For that same six month period, let’s assume that you start off with a typical electronic cigarette like the V2.  The best V2 kit will run you around $150.  A 40 pack of cartridges is $65 and will probably be more than you’ll need for a month, but we’ll throw 5 packs into our equation.  Add it all up and it totals around $475.  That’s less than half of the price of cigarettes, and this is one of the more expensive ways to start vaping.

An alternative is to buy something like the Majestic Aro kit from Madvapes.  $51.99 gets you started, but you’ll need to add a bottle of e-liquid or two.  E-liquid sells for as little as $8 for a 30ml bottle, but let’s plan on $12 just to give you some choice.  Over the course of six months, you’ll need up to 12 bottles.  You’ll also need to get some replacement coils for the Aro clearomizers and we’ll plan on two per month.  Our total is now $214, less than one quarter of the cost of cigarettes!

Of course, if you’re like many new vapers, you will see more and more goodies that you want to add.  Many people find vaping becomes something of a hobby.  But it’s not strictly necessary.  The kits listed above will last a long time and even if you decided to replace them every few months you would still be well ahead of the game.  You will be healthier, smell better, taste more and save money at the same time.  It’s a great feeling!
